Huge expansion of Second Amendment freedoms signed into law
June 17, 2021
Today, I joined Governor Abbott and my colleagues at the Alamo for the bill signing ceremony of multiple high-profile firearm bills that will result in the biggest expansion of Second Amendment freedoms for Texans in decades. On September 1st, Texas will:
- Allow residents 21 years of age and older to carry a firearm without a government permit (HB 1927)
- Prohibit state contracts with companies that discriminate against the firearm and ammunition industry (SB 19)
- Allow citizens to have guns and ammunition in their hotel room (SB 20)
- Permit a citizen to carry in any type of holster (SB 550)
- Exempt suppressors made in Texas from federal regulations (HB 957)
- Make firearm and ammunition manufacturers and sellers essential businesses (HB 1500)
- Become a “Second Amendment Sanctuary State” (HB 2622)
The signing of these bills has solidified Texas’ standing in the upper echelon of states protecting our right to bear arms. I look forward to the eminently arriving special sessions to bring home more conservative legislation to the People of Texas.
