September 26, 2016
Volunteers and Donations Needed!
Fredericksburg, T.X. – 09/26/2016 – Starting a new tradition to honor our veterans and first responders, many in the community are coming together to host the Inaugural Veterans and First Responders Thanksgiving Dinner on November 19, 2016.
“I’m honored to co-host this great event for our local veterans, and first responders” said local Ace Hardware Dealer and Texas State Representative-elect Kyle Biedermann. “In these times, it is especially important to thank our veterans and all of those who serve in uniform. As the son of a Retired Army Colonel and the father of two Navy Active Duty Sailors, I know many of our men and women in uniform have sacrificed and contributed to make our community and our country great. I’m proud to be a part of this dinner to say thank you to honor these heroes and their families, who have sacrificed so much.”
This event is completely free of charge and orchestrated by volunteers. The dinner will have two seatings and is expected to draw over 300 veterans and first responders. Hundreds of local volunteers will be needed to make this an amazing event.
“God bless this awesome community for consistently delivering for the veterans and its First Responders. We are doing this for our veterans, our police officers, our firefighters, EMS, and others as a genuine way to just say ‘THANKS’. This is an opportunity for all of us in the community to step up to the plate and return the favor for those who have served,” said Kyle Biedermann. “We still need volunteers and donations and ask folks to volunteer the day of and day before.”
The community is asked to either donate goods, their time or make a donation on behalf of the event, by contacting Pat Thompson at [email protected] or (512) 771‑9694, or dropping off canned foods at Biedermann’s Ace Hardware in Fredericksburg where a designated area is marked for all collection of food.
“I am excited to get involved in this event to get a great tradition started. I can’t think of a better way for our community to come together to thank our veterans and first responders that have sacrificed so much for us,” said Angela Smith. “ While we have assembled a wonderful team to help organize this dinner, this is truly a community event and we will heavily rely on the generosity of community members and our small businesses to make this all possible.”
“Thanksgiving is a time for all of us to be thankful to all of our Veterans/First Responder teams and their families that served and are serving this great nation and Community. We will take delight in serving them a delicious meal at the first annual Veterans/First Responders Thanksgiving Dinner,” said Pastor Michael Weaver of Harper.
In addition to volunteers, the organizers are seeking donations for the Thanksgiving Dinner including: 625 meal and dessert plates, 600 drink/ coffee cups, 60 turkey pans, 50 uncooked turkeys (12 lbs or more), turkey gravy, cans of green beans, mashed potatoes, cans of corn, cans of cranberry sauce, salad & Ranch salad dressing, bags of stuffing, 48 oz cans of chicken broth, pies and décor.
The event will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the St. Mary’s Holy Family Center. Seating times will be 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Seating is limited to the Veteran or First Responder and one guest. Those interested in attending are asked to respond with their preferred seating time.
